Retford FC are delighted to announce that the club has had an offer accepted to purchase the land that includes the main pitch at the SL2 Rail Stadium.
This landmark announcement means that Retford FC will soon own the entire site on Babworth Road, marking a significant step forward in the club's ongoing development.
This proposed purchase demonstrates the club's commitment to growth both on and off the field, laying the foundation for future development opportunities and new revenue streams. With this ownership, Retford FC are well positioned to invest further in the site and continue building a strong future.
Chairman Chris Woodhead shared his excitement over the acquisition, stating, "We have plans to build some top-class facilities that can be used all year round. We already own the land at the rear of the site, but to finally have the offer accepted on the front part of the site is a huge statement for the club. I’d like to thank the committee at BRSA for their support in getting this over the line."
Once complete, the site will be officially under the ownership of Retford FC, creating a lasting legacy for the club and its supporters. The acquisition includes a commitment to maintaining the existing facilities for the bowling club that uses the site. Chairman Woodhead reassured, "We have been in regular contact with the bowling club, and we are working with them to ensure they continue to have their facilities on the ground, as well as the ability to use the clubroom. With this new ownership, the clubroom can now be utilised to its full potential once the licensing is sorted."
Subject to the normal legal proceedings of the purchase, this represents a major milestone in Retford FC’s ambitious plans, offering the opportunity to develop the SL2 Rail Stadium site into a hub for community sports and activities.
