Retford FC can confirm that Dave Lawson is stepping down as Manager of the highly successful Veterans side as he prepares for a major operation on his ankle, which will see him sidelined for several months.
A hugely popular figure around the club, Dave has been instrumental in the Veterans’ success, guiding them to a league title, the Notts Veterans Cup, and promotion last season. Alongside his work with the Veterans, he has also taken charge of the Under 21s and Under 18’s and played a vital role within the Retford FC family. His presence will be sorely missed during his absence.
Reflecting on Dave’s impact, Chris Woodhead said:
“I’ve known Dave for a long time, from his days managing Leverton United and as Reserve Manager across town. Since joining Retford FC, he has been a key member of the club, running the Veterans and Under 21s and Under 18s, while also providing great support to me since we set up the club in 2015. His guidance and dedication have been invaluable.”
“Of course, he will be welcomed back as soon as he’s fit, but in the meantime, Wayne Boswell will take charge of the Veterans.”
“I wish Dave all the best and a speedy recovery – I’m sure after a glass of red wine while he’s laid up, he won’t be a stranger on Facebook or WhatsApp!”
The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Dave for his hard work and dedication and looks forward to welcoming him back to the SL2 Rail Stadium in the future.
