Retford FC Ladies’ Zainab Mozaffari Selected for Afghan Women’s Refugee Squad in UAE Tournament
Retford FC Ladies are honoured to announce that Zainab Mozaffari has been named in the 23-player Afghan Women’s Refugee squad, which will compete in a four-team international series under the banner of FIFA Unites: Women’s Series, taking place in the United Arab Emirates from 23 to 29 October 2025.
The squad was assembled following three multi-day talent identification camps held in Australia and England, giving the coaching staff a chance to assess players from around the world. Head coach Pauline Hamill emphasised that these camps placed the coaching team “in a strong position” to choose a deserving and balanced selection.
Zainab joins a team made up of 13 players based in Australia, five in the United Kingdom, three in Portugal, and two in Italy. Her inclusion is particularly meaningful given the squad’s mission: players displaced or living abroad, united by their passion for football and their desire to represent Afghanistan on the international stage.
Zainab’s selection is a moment of pride for Retford FC Ladies. Since joining the club, she has shown consistency and technical ability. Now, she will carry the Retford name into the international spotlight, among women whose stories echo resilience, hope, and determination.
Retford FC will be following the tournament closely and we wish Zainab the very best — and we know she will represent us with pride, strength, and dignity.
Congratulations, Zainab — the Retford family stands with you.
