Retford FC have confirmed the signing of promising young defender Jesse Omoregbee from Swallownest FC, following a string of impressive performances — including one against Retford that caught the eye of manager Chris Woodhead.
Omoregbee first made his name in the Sheffield United setup, coming through the Men’s Elite Team. He was a key figure in their recent success, notably in the 2024-25 season when United’s Elite side won the National Football Youth League (NFYL) double. In the NFYL League Cup Final at Loftus Road, after a tense game and extra time, he coolly converted the winning penalty, sealing the League Cup and helping United complete their historic double.
After leaving United’s youth picture, Jesse joined Handsworth FC — where he has featured for their Under 21 side. He will remain dual signed with Handsworth in the NCEL.
Most recently, he had been with Swallownest FC. In the current season, Omoregbee was among the more eye-catching players for Swallownest, including in their match against Retford FC where he scored. That outing is said to have been particularly influential in persuading Woodhead to make the move.
Woodhead said, “I’m happy to have brought Jesse to the club. We met with him the other night and he was impressed with us and the same us with him. He has a very mature head on his shoulders and I’m looking forward to bringing him into the squad for the game at the weekend.”
